Our Consumer Resources
The Responsible Lending Guidelines were developed by the Financial Services Federation with the assistance of a variety of stakeholders including the NZ Federation of Budgeting Services. The Guidelines aim to improve consumer protection, raise standards of responsible lending across the consumer credit industry, and set out specific steps that lenders may need to take to assess if a credit contract will be suitable for a consumer.
As a counterpart to the Responsible Lending Code , the Financial Services Federation and the NZ Federation of Family Budgeting Services have collaborated together to produceThe Code of Responsible Borrowing to inform borrowers of their responsibilities to lenders when they borrow money.
The Financial Services Federation's most recent consumer resource is the Responsible Credit-Related Insurance Code, which outlines the value of having the protection these products provide, and how they should be sold responsibly.
